Who designed the newest WhatsApp icon?

The latest WhatsApp icon design appears to have been around since the launch of the app itself, suggesting that it was designed by one of the founders either Jan Koum or Brian Acton during the initial stages of developing the first version of the WhatsApp app.

The Whats App icon’s basic design hasn’t fully changed over the years, even after the company itself changed hands.

This speaks to the successful icon design’s longevity and effectiveness and is a proof to the fact that the latest WhatsApp icon doesn’t necessarily have to have a long and interesting history to serve its purpose.

About the latest WhatsApp icon

The primary WhatsApp icon features a phone receiver inside a text bubble – the combination clearly shows the function of the app.

The text bubble symbolises instant messaging.

It has been probably the most often used emblem to display the text messages you receive in a variety of apps and networks.

Since instant messaging started, the text bubble has been the most common way to represent a sent or received message.

Even today, almost every text message received is displayed in one of these text bubbles. Text bubbles indicating received messages have a “tail” pointing to the left, while text bubbles indicating sent messages have a tail that points to the right. By incorporating a text bubble with a left-pointing tail into their logo, Whats App can signify that they are a messaging app while subtly tapping into the excitement people experience when they see that they have received a message.
